IPhone -Apple Might Dump Intel for AMD: Report

Apple (News - Alert)is reportedly in talks with Advanced Micro Devices about using the chipmaker's processors, which are known for delivering superior graphics, in devices such as the iMac and iPad.

This would be a major change since Apple has been using Intel (News - Alert)chips in its notebook and desktop personal computers since the company began its transition away from PowerPC in 2006.

According to a report on AppleInsider, representatives from Apple have been seen talking with AMD (News - Alert)reps on Apple's Commuter Coach buses. Executives for the chipmaker have also been spotted on their way out of meetings with members of Apple's top brass. What's more, Apple is reportedly working with AMD chips in its labs.

According to the report, Apple might be considering the change in an effort to diversify - plus the company hasn't been all that happy about Intel design changes that have hurt its partnership with Nvidia. The report also speculates that Apple might be interested in AMD for its graphics ability and the fusion of CPUs and GPUs.

This would be a huge win for AMD, which has been trailing behind Intel in terms of revenues for the past several years.
