IPhone -Mobile Barcodes Now Offer Virtual Movie Tickets in Eight U.S. Cities

While the convenience of pre-purchasing your movie tickets is easier than waiting in line with the masses to grab opening night tickets to Avatar, there’s still the hassle of picking them up at the kiosk waiting for you at the entry.

But now, with a new mobile ticket program announced by Fandango, users in eight specified cities can have their pre-purchased ticket sent directly to their mobile phone through a 2D barcode.

According to Rick Butler, chief operating officer at Fandango, the company has seen success in the mobile space with the variety of apps for the iPhone, Android (News - Alert), Blackberry, Palm and others.

“We know that Mobile Ticket will be one more Fandango convenience that moviegoers will enjoy,” Butler said. “Our cell phones are with us all the time – so what better way to ensure you have your movie ticket?”

So now, moviegoers can simply take their mobile phones straight to the theater ticket-taker, who scans the phones’ barcode, allowing customers to bypass the box office windows and kiosks, and use the tickets att the following movie theatres:

• New York: City Cinemas 1, 2 & 3, Angelika Film Center, East 86th Street Cinemas, Village East Cinema, Beekman Theatre, The Paris Theatre.
• New Jersey: Manville 12 Plex.
• Houston: Angelika Film Center.
• Dallas/Plano: Angelika Dallas; Angelika Plano.
• San Diego: La Mesa Grossmont Center, Clairemont Town Square Stadium.
• Bakersfield: Valley Plaza 16.
• Sonoma County: Rohnert Park 16.
• Hawaii: Ward Stadium, Kahala Theater, Kapolei 16, Mililani Stadium.

With this cutting edge of new technology, Fandango has now created a more universal way for these eight cities to be as up to date as possible on their mobile barcode capabilities.

Fandango could not be immediately reached for comment.
