Indosat has reportedly struck a deal with cellular security solution vendor
SmrtGuard to offer “i-Guard” service to its BlackBerry (

The i-Guard service offers BlackBerry users to help protect their personal data and also recover their smartphone if it is lost or stolen.
Devised by SmartGuard, the i-Guard lets users to wirelessly back up and restore personal data, as well as personally track and remotely wipe their smartphone in the event of theft or loss.
“BlackBerry smartphone users who subscribe to the i-Guard Service can sleep better knowing that their personal data is securely backed up and ready to be restored over the air onto a new or replacement smartphone,” said Robert Kao, founder of SmrtGuard.

Alert) is the first operator in Indonesia to deliver i-Guard to its BlackBerry smartphone customers. The operator offers two plans for the service, weekly and monthly. Customers are also able to do the backup, restore, track and wipe, listen and more.
“Because of consumers’ mobility needs, BlackBerry smartphones have become part of life for both productivity gains and socializing. The i-Guard service gives our customers peace of mind with their BlackBerry smartphones,” said Guntur S. Siboro, chief of marketing for Indosat.
SmrtGuard, which offers tools to backup and restore personal data over the air, track the location of their devices, and to critically execute a remote wipe in the event of theft or loss, is no longer limiting its service to BlackBerry. The cellular security solution vendor is also making its solution available to phones run on Android (

Alert) and Symbian platforms.
Indosat, controlled by Qatar Telecommunications Co., had 28.7 million cellular subscribers at the end of September.
