IPhone -AT&T Announces Four New Mobile Phones

AT&T (News - Alert) has announced four new mobile phones, two from Pantech and two from Samsung, that feature full Web browsers as well as physical and virtual keyboards.

The Pantech “reveal” and “impact” will join the Samsung (News - Alert) “mythic” and “flight” at the head of AT&T’s quick messaging and touch screen phone portfolio. “Not only do these four new consumer phones have either a virtual or physical full keyboard, they now come with our richer and faster att.net mobile browser,” Jeff Bradley, senior vice president for Devices at AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets, said.

These new phones will come preloaded with AT&T's new HTML mobile browser and att.net service, which combines the best of full HTML browsing with features for personalizing favorite bookmarks and local searches, according to AT&T officials.

The new att.net mobile platform utilizes advanced data compression from Opera Software (News - Alert), allowing for faster delivery of HTML Web pages.

Pantech’s reveal features an open-faced numeric keypad on the front of the phone which slides up to uncover a full keyboard underneath. In this device, both sets of keys stay active simultaneously, giving users access to numbers and letters at the same time.

Officials said that reveal utilizes AT&T Navigator and the power of 3G to make GPS, surfing the Web and listening to music fast and convenient. This device is expected to be on shelves on October 18.

Pantech’s impact features an OLED touch screen that allows users to send text messages, make calls and control their music library without having to open the phone. In addition, this device comes with screen features haptic controls which register each key-press with a soft, tactile buzz. Additionally, impact’s bright screen and tri-band 3G functionality enables users to manage social networks and explore the Internet.

AT&T Mobile TV-capable mythic is a touch screen-only device. Its large 3.3 inch touch screen scrolls left to right on the home screen for additional applications with the touch of a finger. Officials said that Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface allows for quick access to favorite features and has specially designed widgets to customize and personalize the way users use their phone. Mythic is expected to be available in November.

The next generation messaging device from Samsung, the flight has a vertical sliding form factor, with full keyboard underneath. Officials said that the main display features a user interface which provides one-touch access to functions like shortcuts, favorites and messaging. This device is also expected to be available in November.
