IPhone -New iPhone Application Converts Irritating Noise into Soothing Sound

An irritating noise emanating from behind closed doors of your neighbor may soon be a thing of past, if you are the owner of an iPhone (News - Alert). A new application released for Apple iPhone claims to convert the annoying noise into soothing sound and provide relief to the people who are worried by the noise pollution.

Noise pollution levels have been steadily increasing in the past few years with the introduction of new technologies like stereo systems and hi-fi home theatres. Even in offices, due to the constraint of space, people are cluttered together and its’ not easy to find a calm, quiet place.

SoundCurtain was developed by Royal College of Art graduate and founder of FutureAcoustic Andreas Raptopoulos. He was inspired to develop such an application when he first moved to London, one of the world's noisiest cities. So, instead of using some noise cancellation headgears, Raptopoulos decided to invent a whole new application that merely converts the annoying noise into soothing music.

“SoundCurtain doesn't block out outside noise, as much as replace it with something environmentally kinder," Raptopoulos explained. "What we try to create through the transformation is a sound environment that can actually be neglected by the brain. Imagine the sound of the sea, always fluctuating. At first you listen to it, then it just fades into the background.”

SoundCurtain makes use of a3 technology which “listens to” outside noise using the microphone on the iPhone headset, and transforms it into soothing ambient sound. According to the developers, this technology has practical applications for both home and office. Raptopoulos is already working with multi-nationals to develop a3 as a stand-alone “sound conditioning” device.

iPhone has numerous applications that are vying for the attention of the customers. Even the big players are looking to introduce their applications in the iPhone platform. Recently, Facebook announced its free Facebook for Apple (News - Alert) iPhone, iPod Touch application. The application was released last July and has seen a steady stream of improvements based on consumer feedback and developing technologies.
