IPhone -Weather Underground Launches Tropical Weather Section for iPhone

Weather Underground, an online provider of weather-related content, has announced the launch of a Tropical Weather section for iPhone (News - Alert) users.

Available at http://i.wund.com/tropical, the service allows iPhone users to access a variety of hurricane tracking maps including 5-day forecast maps, computer model maps, satellite maps, wind maps and historical maps. In addition, the service provides several text products such as public advisories, marine advisories and discussions. This iPhone service is the latest in a suite of online products that Weather Underground provides for customers who want to keep track of tropical weather.

Alan Steremberg, president and co-founder of Weather Underground, said that they have brought the product to market as quickly as possible in light of the active hurricane season they are experiencing in the Atlantic this year. People in areas threatened by severe tropical weather can use the new iPhone service, along with the company’s regular mobile site, to keep themselves and their families safe when they don’t have access to a computer.

The company has also launched its U.S. Severe Weather service on the iPhone site providing a map of the U.S. highlighting all areas with severe weather advisories. This service includes tropical storms, thunderstorms, heat advisories, winter weather statements, fire alerts, flood warnings and tornado alerts. The company is also offering text advisories for state and city.

Weather Underground is offering both their Tropical and Severe Weather services for other mobile users on its regular mobile site, http://m.wund.com

Committed to delivering the most comprehensive, reliable weather information possible, Weather Underground provides up-to-the-minute weather conditions for the most finely targeted areas. Earlier this week, Weather Underground announced the availability of hourly game day weather forecasts for the new college football season on its Web site www.wunderground.com

People can now have hour-by-hour forecasts for the entire NCAA and NAIA schedules for the week preceding each game. The service displays hourly temperature forecasts and animated radar, as well as gives projected wind speed and direction and the percentage chance of rain.
