NeoReader barcode scanning application can be downloaded onto the iPhone free of cost from Apple's App Store, either over a cell network or using Wi-Fi or via iTunes, the company says.
NeoReader transforms the iPhone into a universal barcode scanner that provides instant one-click access to mobile content by clicking on 2D barcodes. NeoMedia Technologies provides optically-initiated wireless transactions that connect between the physical and mobile world with innovative ideas to web technology solutions.
NeoReader is a mobile application that transforms a camera mobile phone into a code scanner - which is a universal 2D code reader. The application provides one-click access to mobile content on the go, anytime and anywhere, company officials say.
The NeoReader application is based on NeoMedia’s patented resolution technology and Gavitec’s ultra-small footprint and platform-independent code scanning algorithms, in order to provide high-performance infrastructure for the processing of optical codes. The mobile software scanner also provides interoperability among 2D codes in the market and also operates on a variety of handsets.
Germany-based Gavitec AG offers development and distribution of mobile scanners and software for mobile applications. The company also provides standardized and individual solutions for mobile marketing, couponing, ticketing and payment systems. The NeoReader mobile application can recognize codes such as Data Matrix, QR code, Aztec code, EAN, UPC and Code 128.
With the help of NeoReader, the user will have to simply scan the 2D code that is present on the product package, ad campaign, retail display, publication, or any other medium. The scanning can be done using the user’s mobile camera, where in the bar code is recognized by the NeoReader application. Then, mobile users will be able to link directly to a specific web page, access services, retrieve real-time information or place orders, thereby avoiding long URLs, search engines and cumbersome menus. The 2D barcodes act as "hyperlinks" from printed mediums to mobile web content and are then activated when and where users choose.
An audio alert on the mobile device will let the user know that NeoReader is connecting to the desired destination on the mobile Web.
Nowadays, many companies have adopted 2D barcodes in their marketing and communications efforts, thereby making the mobile barcode’s application virtually endless. They can be used from advertising or editorial content such as movie trailer, product coupon or video content to public service information.
