iPhone 4S Credited for November Explosion in Mobile App Downloads

Mobile applications have never been more popular than they are today. With the explosion of Amazon’s App Store, teamed with Google’s (News - Alert) own App Market and the Apple App store, there are hundreds of thousands of different apps available for download. Of course, when a new phone is released, app downloads usually go up as people look to see what the new model can do compared to what they used to have.

When the iPhone (News - Alert) 4S was released the phone actually set sales records for Apple (News - Alert), thanks in large part to the excitement the new model built with a summer of rumors. There was also added interest because Apple began offering its devices on Sprint (News - Alert) for the first time. Even with some reported difficulties like a yellow screen, the Apple iPhone 4S had users lining up to try it out.

It is not surprising then that at least one research firm has issued a report saying that new iPhone 4S users as well as the release of iOS5 has caused a spike in the number of apps that have been downloaded.

The number of apps that had been downloaded in November of this year were actually up 83 percent from the same time period in 2010. Fiksu Inc. is actually a company that has come up with a platform that monitors the downloading of applications across all the mobile device platforms as well as customer loyalty. Fiksu is also a company that will track the amount of money that is spent on the Apple, the Android (News - Alert) and the Blackberry platforms.

Fiksu pointed out that the sales bump was not only one that showed real improvement over the same period a year ago, but also a consistency jump when in comparison to October. Fiksu also showed that the amount of downloads was not affected by many price fluctuations.

While some companies did have various Holiday sales, there weren’t enough applications to have reduced prices that explained the rocketing demand in apps. The iPhone 4S release seems to be the only thing that explains exactly why there were suddenly so many more mobile app downloads.
