UBS analyst Maynard Um is raising his estimate of 28 million handset sales for Apple (News
- Alert) to 30 million in Q4 2011. That’s almost double from Q1 2011 sales when the company sold 16.24 million iPhones.
The new projection comes after AT&T announced this will be their best smartphone quarter ever due to large sales from the iPhone (News - Alert) 4S. Within three days of its launch in Oct. the iPhone 4S had sold over four million units.
iPhone 4S is one of the best smartphones yet, according to Apple, with features that include a dual-core A5 chip, 8 megapixel camera, 1080p HD resolution video recording and Siri, your own personal assistant.
“iPhone 4S is a hit with customers around the world, and together with iOS 5 and iCloud, is the best iPhone ever,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing.
Although Um raised his estimates to a high 30 million for the iPhone, he stayed with his original estimate of 12 million in iPad sales.
According to Apple Insider, the iPad’s smaller figure is largely due to “consumer wallet constraints” and that if they were to buy an Apple product they would choose the company’s Macbook computers for more functionality and practicality.
Another group of analyst has also made their predictions on Apple’s sales for Q4 2011; however, they’re findings show a smaller estimate than Um’s. Mark Moskowitz, an analyst for JP Morgan (News
- Alert), sees Q4 with 28 million, up from last week’s prediction of 25.3 million. As for the iPad, Moskowitz thinks Apple will sell 13 million.
Shaw Wu of Sterne Agee also thinks Apple will end their Q4 with 28 million. However, he lowered his estimate in iPad sales from 15 million to 13.5 million.
On Tuesday Brian White from Ticonderoga Securities noted that Apple had its best Nov. ever, according to supply chain checks.
“We’re very confident that we will set an all-time record in the December quarter for iPhone sales. We – in our wildest dreams, we couldn’t have gotten off to a start as great as we have on the 4S,” said CEO of Apple, Time Crook.
The iPhone 4S has a suggested retail price of $199 for the 16GB model, $299 for the 32GB model and $399 for the new 64GB model.
