Ness Computing Updates Dining Guide App

Currently there are more than 650,000 apps for the iPhone and other lines of Apple (News - Alert) products. With so many choices, it’s hard to find the one that really suits your needs, but the best ones usually stand out from the rest.

The App Store Best of 2012 has highlighted some of the best ones for this year, and the Ness Dining Guide App for the iPhone (News - Alert) and iPod touch is on that list. The app is created by Ness Computing and is designed to give you information about dining so you can make informed decisions based on different metrics.

After all, there’s nothing worse than going blindly in to a restaurant and walking out disappointed.

The new feature is one of those ideas that makes you say, “Why didn’t I think of that?” Social media platforms are creating large amounts of data with the things we do every day. If the right program is created to aggregate different segments of this information, it can be used to provide a service for people that want to use it.

The new version of the Ness Guiding App can find the favorite restaurants of your friends around the country so you can choose based on what they recommend.

The Taste Match feature of the app will let you know whose tastes fit with your own, so a Polish restaurant your friend in Chicago likes will be a good choice next time you’re in the Windy City. The same also applies for the choices you make about every restaurant you visit.

If your circle of friends is large enough, you just might put food critics out of business.

"Our customers love discovering restaurants from trusted friends - not all of their friends, but the ones they share similar tastes with. So we completely rebuilt the profile in Ness to show you which friends you have similar tastes with and which restaurants they love and would recommend. We even show places you and a friend would both enjoy. It is the simplest way to see your friends' favorite dining destinations in town," said CEO, Corey Reese.

Ness uses a Likeness Engine to provide results that are relevant to your specifications. The information it gathers comes from different sources, including ratings, reviews, popularity of an establishment and recommendation of your friends, family and colleagues.

These recommendations are then put together and a Likeness Score is awarded. Based on this score, you can choose to dine in or avoid the place entirely.

The app is available at the Apps Store on the iPhone and iPod touch for free.
