Stanley's Redesigned Virtual Level App Now Available for iPad and iPhone

With Apple (News - Alert) increasingly adding advanced features to its latest iPhone and iPad models, mobile app developers are finding new opportunities to leverage them to enhance their existing applications as well as come up with new, innovative apps.

In light of this, Stanley, a brand of Stanley Black & Decker (News - Alert), Inc. and a diversified worldwide supplier of tools and engineered solutions for professional, industrial, woodworking, construction and do-it-yourself use, has revealed its redesigned level app, now for iPad and new iPhone (News - Alert) models. This free app offers users the accuracy and reliability they are accustomed to with traditional Stanley levels, but in virtual form.

"With over five million iPhone 5’s sold in its first weekend alone, we are excited to offer our customers a revamped app compatible with features like Retina display," said Todd Langston, Director of Brand Marketing, in a statement.

The redesigned Level App boasts two virtual levels included in the app which emulate existing Stanley levels. Users can select from their classic cherry wood or popular yellow FatMax. Additionally, the app is suitable for doing simple jobs such as hanging pictures, mounting shelves and more when you don't have a conventional level available.

Combining more than a century's worth of hand tool manufacturing experience with today's latest digital technology, the app uses accelerometer and a digital gyroscope located in select iPhone and iPad models to generate an understanding of where the device is in space. One calibrated, the bubble can read an angle up to 90 degrees and can indicate 0 degrees when you are level with crisp, easy-to-read numbers.

The Stanley Level App requires iOS 5.0 or later and is now available for free at the Apple App Store. It’s also compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation), iPod touch (5th generation) and the iPad.
