Apple Set to Ship 30-Pin Power Adapters

The iPhone (News - Alert) 5 has brought a ton of different features and fun since its release. Not only has the newest iteration of the iPhone brought a bigger screen and new features (both good and bad) but it has also redesigned some other parts of the phone. The earbuds have been redesigned in such a way that the company claims they fit better than regular old earbuds. There was one other change to the iPhone 5 that wasn’t quite as well greeted as some of the other changes. Apple (News - Alert) has changed the connection point for charging to a 30-pin format as opposed to what has been their format since the first iPod was released.

There had been lots of talk about this new connector and the fact that Apple would eventually be putting out an adapter that would allow people to use their old power cords with the new connector. The company has announced that those new adapters are now en route to stores for the low, low price of just $29. Apple sent out an e-mail to people who ordered these adapters that they will be shipping soon. Most think that people will first be able to get these on October 9.

For those who are hoping to get cheaper adapters from outside providers, it may be a little while. Apple told people who wanted to make these adapters that they would have to go through a special course to learn how to do it. The company is also requiring special permission before a third party is allowed to copy the design of these special new adapters. That could also mean that any outside companies might not be able to undersell Apple the way they have been able to do with the old replacement cords and power adapters. Apple seems to want to make sure they’ve cornered the market with this new cord before they let anyone else have a crack.
