iPhone 5, iPad Mini to Break Cover September 12, Says Report

The topic of release dates for Apple's (News - Alert) newest product line has been something of a mystery for several months now, but a new report recently released says that the wait may soon be over for not only seeing the newest in Apple devices, but also for being able to buy them.

Blog site, iMore had brought in the report suggesting that, not only would there be a special event sponsored by Apple that would introduce both the iPhone (News - Alert) 5 and the iPad Mini to the world on September 12, but also that the iPhone 5 would go on sale just nine days later, September 21. The report is at least somewhat corroborated by earlier word that suggested a September 21 release date based on reports from the Chinese supply chain, and is approximately similar to last year's iPhone 4S release, which saw an unveiling on October 4 and then a full market release 10 days later.

The iPad Mini, meanwhile, was a bit less clear in terms of its arrival on store shelves, but some are running on the assumption that we're not hearing about that because it will have the same schedule as the iPhone 5 will. Moreover, some reports are hinting about the unveiling and potential launch of an updated iPod Touch and iPod Nano potentially on that same day, September 12. Further reports indicate that the new devices will also have the altered dock connectors heard about in previous reporting, which will likely pose a problem for Apple users unless adapters are part of the picture.

Apple, of course, isn't making any official announcements, and if the launch is indeed September 12, it likely won't make announcements until, oh, September 7 or so. Thus, a grain of salt is necessary with these reports, and it's important to remember that they may not come off at all. Still, given that the Android (News - Alert) devices have been showing gains in the market while Apple hasn't had anything new to show since the last set of devices made their appearance--nearly a year for phones and around six months for devices altogether--it's a fair bet that Apple wants to have something new out soon. Moreover, with the Christmas shopping season approaching rapidly--some ambitious stores have their decorations up not long after Labor Day--Apple will almost certainly want something out and pulling customers in that valuable retailer time frame.

Just when we'll actually get a glimpse of the new iPhone, new iPad, and any new iPods that come along is as yet unclear, but if the reports hold true, we may well be getting our first looks sooner rather than later.
