Rumors Suggest Facebook Integration will be Featured in iOS 6

Apple (News - Alert) may be planning to introduce deeper integration with social apps like Facebook in iOS 6. Apparently, iPhone (News - Alert) users can look forward to similar integration like that found with the iOS Twitter app.

It has been rumored that Facebook executives are expecting to hear the announcement regarding this new feature to come at Apple's Worldwide Developer's Conference this month. Officials at Facebook (News - Alert) reportedly hope the announcement will take the focus away from the company's recent IPO disaster, in which Facebook's debut valuation of $100 billion sank to a mere $60 billion within the span of a month or so.

"Sources said execs there hope that a successful [patent] settlement with Yahoo – as well as an expected announcement of an integration with Apple’s iOS at the Worldwide Developers Conference in mid-June – will return the focus to forward momentum by Facebook," said Kara Swisher (News - Alert) from tech reporting and analysis site, AllThingsD.

Other reports suggest Apple and Facebook have finally partnered to bring deeper Facebook integration to iOS, to be unveiled at WWDC. But things could change between then and now as evidenced by an unreleased build of iOS 4 that turned up a few years ago with this exact feature.

"It's important to note that Apple being Apple, something could change in the next week and a half," wrote MG Siegler from TechCrunch.com. "But as of now, Facebook is a go in iOS 'Sundance.'"

It's not too likely that Facebook integration will be dropped before the unveiling of iOS 6 this month, however, since Facebook is so keen to make this happen in order to cook up some good publicity – publicity it sorely needs.

Meanwhile, Apple CEO Tim Cook has already dropped strong hints suggesting Facebook integration is in iOS' near future.
