Shazam Upgrades Content Recognition App for iPhone and iPod Touch Devices

Shazam (News - Alert), a media discovery company, has just unveiled a major update to its content recognition software for iPhone (News - Alert) and iPod touch devices.

Shazam 5.0, the latest update to the Shazam Free, Encore and (RED) Apps on iPhone and iPod touch devices, offers the world’s fastest content identification and discovery experience for music, television and media advertising, according to company officials.

The content recognition app allows users to discover, explore, purchase and share music, access more content about television shows, and get more information and even buy products and services from the world’s leading brands.

“With the release of Shazam 5.0 for iPhone and iPod touch, Shazam fans will be able to get the information they’re looking for almost instantaneously, giving them lightning-fast access to content and a deeper experience surrounding the song, TV show or TV advertisement they have just tagged,” said Alex Musil, EVP Product for Shazam, in a statement.

The media discovery solution is beneficial as it helps in identifying content such as music and Shazam-enabled television shows and advertising in as little as one second, making it even faster for people to discover, explore and share more of the music, shows and brands they love. When a person uses the app to identify a song or album, the app returns the name of the artist, song and album in as little as one second.

In addition to this, Shazam 5.0 also includes other features like LyricPlay that shows the lyrics in time with the music, links to buy the music, music videos, tour info, album reviews, other popular songs from that artist and more.

As part of the upgrade, the Shazam 5.0 comes with a newly designed user interface and improvements to sharing on social networks, including sharing content on Twitter and Facebook with a personal note or comment, right from every tag (News - Alert) result. The service now offers additional language support including Brazilian Portuguese, Korean and Spanish for South America, making the total number of languages supported by Shazam to 33 worldwide.

The app is available with unlimited tagging, so fans get better opportunities to engage with music and television content. They can share the discoveries on Facebook (News - Alert) using Shazam Friends feature. The app is available for every major platform and is also available at iTunes App Store, Google play, Amazon App Store, AT&T’s AppCenter, Verizon VCast app store, Nokia (News - Alert) Store, Windows Phone Marketplace, BlackBerry App World, and GetJar.

Recently, Shazam announced that it allowed fans who watched NBC's stunning two-hour snowboarding competition Red Bull Supernatural on Saturday, March 31 to use the Shazam App to tag the show for exclusive Contour point-of-view footage from the eyes of the world's most progressive riders.
