IPhone -Is Verizon iPhone Coming in 2011?

Is the Verizon iPhone (News - Alert) on the way? There was speculation recently that the device may soon be on the way based on who owns some interestingly-relevant domain names.

It appears that Verizon (News - Alert) Wireless may have acquired the domain names “iPhoneonVerizon.com” and “iPhoneforVerizon.com.” The domains have apparently been transferred to Verizon. But that happened probably in late 2008, reported MacRumors.

9to5Mac said that even if Verizon purchased the domain names, it cannot be used as evidence of the launching of a Verizon iPhone in 2011. The company may have purchased the domain names for a time after early 2011. Or, Verizon may have purchased them because of “rumors and for potential traffic,” said 9to5Mac.

MacRumors predicts that “Verizon will be coming out with an iPhone in the near future.” But it does not want to use the domain name transfer as evidence of that occurring.

One of the latest predictions about the unveiling of a Verizon iPhone comes from Bloomberg (News - Alert) News, as reported by TMCnet. Bloomberg said that Apple (News - Alert) “will likely host one of its splashy product introductions to announce a new version of the iPhone that works on Verizon's network.”

TMCnet reports that Bloomberg said mid-February is the likely time for the launch, such as on Valentine's Day.

Similarly, iPhone FAQ reported recently that a Verizon logo wound up on a help page for Skype (News - Alert) on how to make video calls.

“Is Skype in-the-know about the widely rumored Verizon iPhone launch come January 2011, or is this a meaningless misplacement of a logo on a help document?” asked iPhone FAQ.

In addition, eWeek reported that “Apple will release the iPhone on Verizon in early 2011, according to Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster.”

Meanwhile, all Verizon iPhone wannabes can do is wait. Perhaps, it will be their Valentine’s Day present.
