Vineland student arrests include drug, theft and harassment charges

Jan 31, 2013 (The Press of Atlantic City - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Vineland police report making multiple arrests of local students in the past two weeks on charges including drug possession, theft and harassment.

At the Vineland High School South building a 17 year-old male was arrested Monday when he was found with several weapons inside a vehicle, police said. The student had wooden nunchucks, a hunting knife with a 6 inch blade, a container of pepper spray and small scale located underneath of the center console, police said. He was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police also arrested a 16-year-old male on harassment charges at the high school's south building Monday for allegedly telling a 17-year-old female he would spread rumors to embarrass her. He was released to an uncle.

On Jan. 23 police responded to Vineland High School North on East Chestnut Avenue where a 15-year-old female student was arrested for alleged possession of marijuana under 50 grams. She was released to her mother.

They also responded to the school on Friday when two boys, ages 15 and 16, were arrested for disorderly conduct after getting into a fight, police said. They were released to their parents.

On Friday police investigated the theft of an iPhone, valued at $650, from a teacher at Anthony Rossi Middle School on Palermo Avenue. Police said they used the GPS tracking device on the phone to track it to the home of a 13-year-old male student. The student, who said a classmate dared him to take the phone, was arrested on theft charges and released to his mother.

Police also arrested a 15-year-old male student on charges of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia at the high school's north building Monday. The student was caught when staffed smelled burnt marijuana coming from a restroom, police said.
