Pizza 73 staff, operators and customers have reason to smile thanks
to the growth of Slices for Smiles, a charitable fundraising program
that raised $275,000 for Children's Miracle Network and its 14
affiliated hospitals across Canada in 2012. The program, a joint
effort between sister brands Pizza 73 and Pizza Pizza, has raised
more than $1 million dollars to date for life-saving services and
equipment at leading Canadian children's hospitals, including Alberta
Children's Hospital in Calgary and Stollery Children's Hospital in
Edmonton.
Representatives from Pizza 73 and Alberta Children's Hospital
celebrated the milestone at a community pizza party in Okotoks,
outside of Calgary, this past Saturday, January 26.
"Children are our future and they mean the world to us," said Pat
Finelli, Chief Marketing Officer for Pizza 73/Pizza Pizza. "Our
Slices for Smiles program, like all of our local sponsorships and
community outreach, affords us the opportunity to work with customers
to do good locally and regionally, supporting causes that matter to
all. One in four Canadians visits a children's hospital in their
lifetime so I could not think of a more deserving organization."
Funds raised through the Slices for Smiles program remain local -
staying within the communities in which they were raised. Donations
raised through this program help fund critical services, leading-edge
research and excellence in care for millions of children in Canada
and their families.
"We are thrilled to celebrate Pizza 73's incredible accomplishment
and milestone," said John Hartman, Chief Operating Officer, Canada
for Children's Miracle Network. "Partners like Pizza 73 and Pizza
Pizza are, in part, responsible for the outstanding performance of
our pediatric health care programs and personnel in Canada. Their
contributions play a direct role in helping to save and improve the
lives of our children. We look forward to nurturing this amazing
partnership."
Pizza 73 locations in Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan
participated in the Slices for Smiles fundraiser, which took place in
April and October 2012. Donations were also collected online, by
phone and through the company's iPhone app.
