Emmy Award-Winning PBS TV Series WordWorld™ Introduces New Early Learning App

WordWorld™, the three-time Emmy award-winning educational television series broadcast on PBS Kids, is bringing its learning platform to the iPhone (News - Alert), iPad and iPod touch with a new early learning app: WordWorld: Fun with WordFriends.

The new WordWorld app features interactive games that help young children learn to recognize letters and form words to provide the fundamental building blocks for learning to read.

The WordWorld: Fun with WordFriends app is being offered via PBS Kids Mobile, and is available for $1.99 at http://pbskids.org/mobile and in the Apple (News - Alert) App store.

Utilizing the same foundations established by the epartment of Education funded study which demonstrated that the WordWorld television program improves children's literacy skills, the WordWorld: Fun with WordFriends app is the first in a series of interactive WordWorld learning tools for preschoolers. The app allows preschoolers to build words that come to life as the objects they represent.

The WordWorld: Fun with WordFriends app was developed by Bean Creative to help children learn letters, letter sounds and word families with their WordWorld friends Dog, Duck, Frog and Pig. As the games are played, parents are able to track their children's progress in order to guide them toward greater letter and word knowledge.

Games include:

• Word Fishing with Frog & Duck - help Frog and Duck collect letters from their pond to create words.
• Dog's Letter Fetch - help Dog fetch letters near the house to build words based on letter sounds.
• Windy Words with Pig - kids help Pig clean up his barnyard by collecting families of words.

For each game played, children will earn a special WordThing sticker that they can use to make their own picture in their My Word Space. Some words offer My Video rewards which feature word-building video content from the WordWorld show.
