Fort Collins Footprint & Employment Expands for OtterBox
FORT COLLINS, Colo. --(Business Wire)--
With continued growth, OtterBox®
is expanding its footprint in downtown Fort Collins, Colo. The maker of
protective cases for mobile technology recently added to its "campus"
with facilities at 315 W. Oak St. and 331 S. Meldrum St.
"As the worldwide demand for OtterBox grows, so does our need for
talent," said OtterBox founder and CEO Curt
Richardson. "We have around 600 employees in Fort Collins, including
temporary staff and contractors. We've run out of space to accommodate
the demands of our current growth and have made some strategic
acquisitions to prepare us for the future expansion of the company."
Floor-by-floor renovations are currently underway at 315 W. Oak St.,
where 58 OtterBox employees are currently located. The building could
house as many as 300 eventually. Preliminary discussions with the city
of Fort Collins for redevelopment of the building at 331 S. Meldrum St.
are underway. Groundbreaking would occur shortly after final plans are
approved. This new faclity should accommodate years of Otter growth.
Additionally, the company is completing internal renovations on two
converted residential buildings directly north of the headquarters
location on Meldrum St. and is well settled into facilities at 318
Canyon Ave. and 401 W. Mountain Ave.. By the end of the year, OtterBox
will occupy seven locations across Fort Collins, including its
distribution center at 760 SE Frontage Road. OtterBox completed
development of its headquarters
building in May 2011. The 52,000-square-foot facility received the
Fort Collins Urban Design Award for architecture in the fall of 2011 and
recently received a LEED certification.
OtterBox plans to fill 150 to 200 new positions by the end of the year,
necessitating the new facilities. In addition to OtterBox employees, the
building at 315 W. Oak St. will also be home to several new businesses
fully or partially financed by Richardson (News - Alert), OtterBox President Brian
Thomas and former OtterBox CFO Kurt Hoeven.
