Capella University Introduces Four New BS in Information Technology Minors

MINNEAPOLIS --(Business Wire)--

Capella University (News - Alert), an accredited online university* that has built its reputation by providing high-quality online degree programs for working adults, has announced four new minors in its ABET-accredited**, online Bachelor of Science in Information Technology program. They include Network Technology: Cisco, Network Technology: Microsoft, System Development: Mobile, and System Development: Web Application.

"Our new minors represent some of the most in-demand skills in the IT industry today, including networking and application development," said Feranda Williamson, EdD, dean of Capella's School of Undergraduate Studies. "Although we have offered coursework in these areas before, we have redesigned the content to include additional hands-on, interactive learning activities that will help our students gain skills they can apply immediately on the job. These skills-focused minors also allow students more options for differentiating themselves professionally."

Network Technology minors help prepare students for certification exams
Capella's Network Technology: Microsoft (News - Alert) and Network Technology: Cisco minors are modeled on professional certification standards, allowing students to earn a BS in IT degree while also preparing for icrosoft or Cisco (News - Alert) certification exams. The programs provide courseroom study, real-world learning scenarios, and valuable exposure to industry-standard tools, focused on the design and administration of Microsoft or Cisco networks, depending on the minor chosen. The curriculum includes planning, designing, configuring, and troubleshooting Microsoft or Cisco environments, ranging from small, local networks to enterprise-wide integrated networks. Specific topics include cloud computing, security, wireless networks, and RFID architectures.

System Development minors focus on in-demand Web and mobile application skills
Capella's System Development: Web Application and System Development: Mobile minors focus on the growing need for developers skilled in Web and mobile applications. The online BS in IT programs offer courseroom study and interactive learning activities drawn from real-world scenarios, providing students with the opportunity to gain workplace-ready skills. Both minors focus on planning, evaluating, designing, and managing applications in environments from single user to complex enterprises. Special topics in the Web Application minor include implementing multimedia, application services, databases, and servlets; and the use of such advanced languages including .Net, Java, JavaScript, AJAX, XHTML, and SQL to develop databases, web sites, web applications, web services, and web technologies. Special topics in the Mobile minor include managing data and effective requirements analysis, as well as creating innovative applications for iPhone®, iPad®, Android (News - Alert)®, and Windows® mobile devices.
