BRIEF: KU hoops recruit chooses Roy Williams (on Skype)
Nov 13, 2009 (The Kansas City Star - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
Harrison Barnes, one of the most highly rated recruits in the class of 2010, announced this afternoon that he will sign a letter of intent to play basketball for North Carolina, choosing the Tar Heels over Duke, Kansas, Oklahoma, UCLA and Iowa State.
In a gathering at Ames (Iowa) High televised by ESPNU, Barnes announced his decision by initiating a Skype conversation with the winning coach on a laptop. After a momentary delay, Barnes said, "Coach Williams?" Sure enough, on the other end, there was Roy Williams with the entire North Carolina team standing behind him on the big screen in the Ames High gym.
With Barnes now out of the picture, KU coach Bill Self will focus his attention on point guards Josh Selby and Brandon Knight and shooting guard Doron Lamb, all of whom have taken official visits to Kansas. Self would like to sign two of the three. They are expected to make their decisions in the late signing period.
