BRIEF: Pelephone to market new Google phone: Magic will be the first phone in Israel based on the Android operating system.

Several weeks after announcing the launch of Apple's iPhone, Bezeq Israel Telecommunications Company Ltd. (TASE:BZEQ) cellular operator subsidiary Pelephone Communications Ltd reports that it will also launch HTC Corporation's (Taipei: 2498) Magic Google handset in the coming weeks. Magic will be the first phone in Israel based on the Android operating system.
Pelephone deputy CEO Nir Stern said, "We are proud to launch the first Android in Israel. The Android is one of the most fascinating operating systems in the world and HTC is a global leader with the most extensive experience in these operating systems. We believe that HTC's reputation will enable us to launch the best handset that comes with this operating system."
In addition to the iPhone and Magic, Pelephone will also launch Palm Ltd. Pre and probably Nokia's N97 meaning that it will be offering the most interesting of the latest handsets.
Magic will be the first handset to be introduced by Newpan Telecom Ltd., the importer of HTC phones, since the departure of CEO Omri Cohen who has been replaced by Alon Lavie.
